Our
History
Rutt's
Machine shop started it's humble beginnings in 1972 in a 20' x 40' section of Leon's father's dairy barn, which entailed fixing agricultural equipment, specializing in engine repair. Our initial machining was valve train repairs.
After two years, the opportunity arose to rent a 5000 square foot basement, so Leon moved his facility to Route 230 in Elizabethtown. Leon started obtaining equipment to resurface heads and flywheels, boring and honing equipment. As the demand for remachining engines was stronger than the mechanical services and repairs, the machine shop was expanded to included a full crankshaft and block service in 1980.
In 1985, we added a state of the art crankshaft grinder with an automated radius and face stone dressing fixture, balancing equipment, belt surfacing machine for manifolds, spray welding equipment and a 100" linebore machine.
In 1989, the landlord approved of us enlarging our space to include a clean assembly room, loading area, oven room, and a cleaning and inspection facility. After trying unsuccessfully to buy the rented property, we broke ground in August 1995 and started the long process of planning, site preparation, building, and finally the huge task of moving from our Route 230 location to our present location, 300 Jonlyn Drive.
We had a huge task ahead of us of moving all our machining equipment and recalibrating it after it was moved into our new 25,000 square foot building. To keep our costs in line we have recycled a lot of used materials and equipment in our building process. And we value and appreciate all the late night hours from employees, friends, and family that has helped make this facility a reality.
Thank you so much for taking the time and interest to read about our humble beginnings
and our successful journey.
